03/28/2002 Documentation for CSU gridded analyses (Version 2). Version 2 - used humidity corrected sonde data (Wang et al, 2002, Ciesielski et al. 2002), and removal of spurious divergence errors in the analysis (Haertel 2002). If horizontal height gradients are required, we recommend that the ECMWF height analysis (from a special ECMWF TOGA COARE reanalysis) be used. For this reason, we have put the ECMWF height analysis into our LSA gridded format. The specific humidity data has been updated to version 2.1. This version includes a correction to version 2.0 for temperatures less than freezing. Also, the specific humidities value above 100 mb are generally not reliable and thus should not be used, or at least regarded with great caution. Basic fields of height (z), zonal wind (u), meridional wind (v), temperature (T), specific humidity (q) were objectively analyzed using multiquadric interpolation (Nuss and Titley 1994) over the Large Scale Array (LSA) of TOGA/COARE at 25 mb resolution from 1000 to 25 mb and at 1 degree resolution in both the latitude and longitude directions. Surface fields and surface pressure were also analyzed over the LSA. This analyses was done for 480 six hour intervals (00, 06, 12, and 18UTC) during the COARE Intensive Observing Period (IOP - 1 November, 1992 through 28 February, 1993). Diagnosed fields of divergence (d) and omega (w) are also available. The missing value flag is -999.0 for all fields. Reading the data: First gunzip the compressed tar files that you want, then untar these files. A Fortran program "rd_ascii_v2.f" has been supplied to help users read the various data fields. This program describes the grid structure, that is, the latitude, longitude, height location of the data. References: Ciesielski, P.E., R. H. Johnson, and J.
