The Southwest Monsoon Experiment -- 2009 (SoWMEX-09) is a follow up to TiMREX/SoWMEX conducted from 15 May to 26 June 2008. SoWMEX 2009 focuses on heavy rain and flood producing convective systems, and their accompanying quantitative precipitation forecast/estimate (QPF/QPE) problems, in a complex environment influenced by the Mei-Yu front, southwesterly summer Monsoon, land-sea contrasts, and significant orography. The special observing period for SoWMEX09 will span from 20 May through 16 June 2009.
